History and Background

I began my law enforcement career as a cadet with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in southern California. As soon as I was old enough, at 19 years old, I entered the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Academy. Graduating at only 20 years old, I became one of the youngest sworn officers in California history. I worked as a reserve deputy while attending college. I put my law enforcement career on hold to finish my B.A. in San Francisco. After graduating and working in the private sector for about 5 years, I finally gave into the relentless call to service and returned to law enforcement. In 2008 I was hired full time by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

After working for 2 years, I made my move back to my second home in the bay area and was hired by a police agency in the peninsula where I worked for an additional 8 years until a fateful spring day when I responded to an active shooter incident. There, while evacuating victims, I injured my back. After over a year of trying to recover, I was unable to return to the strain of full duty and was medically retired.

During my 9 year tenure, I worked patrol for 4 years. While working all shifts, I learned to investigate all kinds of crimes, including but not limited to, theft, burglary, rape, assault, domestic violence, narcotics, DUI, fraud, child and elder abuse. I then tested, and was selected for the traffic unit.

While in the traffic unit, I was responsible for traffic enforcement, investigating traffic collisions and reviewing and approving traffic collision reports written by other officers. I issued hundreds of citations for vehicle code violations and investigated hundreds of collisions; from minor injury to fatalities.

During my time in the traffic unit I became a Field Training Officer and shortly there after earned the rank of Master Officer. I also became the Senior Traffic Officer and the lead investigator for all major and fatal collisions for the department.

I also became an expert in all matters DUI. I became the department coordinator for training officers in proper DUI investigations and became certified as a DUI investigation instructor from the California Highway Patrol. I was also certified in Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) device operation and calibration as well as DUI Checkpoint Planning and Management.

I am a member of the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) as well as the California Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists (CA2RS). As such, I continue to attend regular training to advance my knowledge and expertise in my field. I am also certified to testify as a traffic accident reconstruction expert by the San Mateo Superior Court.

I am a licensed Private Investigator and Guard, and licensed to carry firearms.
